Paying Property Taxes

The Township of Wollaston issues property tax bills twice per year; the Interim Tax Bill and the Final Tax Bill.  Each tax bill you receive will have two payment due dates.

Payment must be received on or prior to the due date to avoid penalty and interest.  A payment is considered to be made once the funds have been received or receipted by the Township.  Online payments require three to five business days to process and property owners are responsible for allowing their bank processing time to submit their payment to the Township.  Most financial institutions have a cut-off time for payment processing and do not process weekend or holiday payments until the next business day.

Penalty/interest is applicable on the first day of each month on any outstanding tax amount, and on the first day of each calendar month thereafter in which default continues as set out in the Municipal Act. The penalty rate is 1.25% per month.

Late payment charges are in accordance with current legislation, and cannot be waived.

The Township is not responsible for payments made on wrong accounts.

If you receive a tax notice that is not yours, please return to the Township Office.

Property taxes are the main source of revenue that the Township of Wollaston receives to continue to provide the important municipal programs and services our residents value and expect.

Property taxes are determined by multiplying a property’s assessed value by the tax rate. MPAC determines your property’s assessed value and the Municipal Council approves the tax rates.

Property tax bills are mailed twice a year and are paid in four installments.
Interim tax bills are mailed in early March and include installments due March 29, 2024 and May 31, 2024.

Final Bills, reflecting the new tax rate, are mailed in early July and include installments due July 31 and September 30.
